There’s something deeply nostalgic and powerfully evocative about Vikings in the LEGO universe. Whether you remember the short-lived but beloved 2005 LEGO Vikings theme or just have a fascination with longboats, horned helmets (yes, we know the historical debate), and village life under the northern lights, the LEGO Icons 21343 Viking Village is a triumphant return to a theme fans have been crying out for. Now, at a discounted €104.99 for LEGO Insiders, down from its €139.99 RRP. It’s not just a journey to Valhalla, but a solid deal too.
On Sunday morning, with tea in hand and the kids pre-occupied building their own latest LEGO, Darren set about building the Viking Village at the kitchen table, the heart of all major construction at Redmond’s Forge. Just a few hours later, the village stood proudly, ready to be slotted into the ever-expanding medieval and Viking section of our LEGO City.

This set emerged from the LEGO Ideas platform, where fan concepts are brought to life through community votes, and was refined with the LEGO design team’s polish. What we’re left with is a richly detailed, modular Viking settlement that’s perfect for play, display, or city integration.
🛡️ Building Experience
From the moment the first wooden plank-style bricks clicked together, this build felt special. The three modular buildings, a longhouse, watchtower, and blacksmith’s forge, each have their own foundation base and can be rearranged to suit your layout. That modularity makes this set incredibly versatile for city builders like us at Redmond’s Forge.
The roof techniques in the forge are particularly pleasing, using angled tiles to create a rustic, weather-worn effect. The watchtower, perched on a rocky cliff with a rope bridge connecting it to the forge, gives the whole village verticality and cinematic drama.
As always at Redmond’s Forge, the build happened in our Stepaside kitchen, where all major LEGO decisions are made and Sunday mornings are sacred. This was a solo build by Darren, taking about 3.5 hours, with plenty of admiration breaks in between.
🔥 Minifigures & Accessories
The four included minifigures each bring a unique flavor to the set:
- Village Chief with a braided beard and printed cloak
- Shieldmaiden Archer with long hair and dual-molded arms
- Blacksmith covered in soot and detail
- Warrior wielding a classic round shield and axe
The accessories deserve a special shoutout, everything from swords, shields, and helmets to tiny anvils, food items, and scrolls help create a living, breathing world. LEGO has balanced realism with just the right amount of stylized Viking flair.
🌍 Integration into Redmond’s Forge
In our LEGO City layout at Redmond’s Forge, 10 baseplates long by 7 wide for the medieval area, the Viking Village has now claimed a proud spot in the northwest medieval corner, just past the castle gate and opposite the black falcon fortress. Surrounded by forests and a waterfall backdrop made with transparent blue bricks, the Viking Village connects visually to our lighthouse shoreline and adds a rustic, coastal vibe.
Expectations are high for a custom longboat and maybe a sea serpent in the fjord nearby…
🧱 Value for Money
At full price (€139.99), this set still offers a good deal at under 7 cents per piece, but with the Insiders discount to €104.99, it becomes exceptional value. The build quality, variety of techniques, and sheer storytelling potential place it among our top sets of the year.
🧭 Final Verdict: 9/10

- Strong minifigure lineup with custom prints
- Excellent integration into city or medieval dioramas
