The Build Experience
This morning’s kitchen table session was led by Luke and Rose, who wasted no time diving into the colourful bags of parts. At 215 pieces, 60343 is the perfect size for a morning build, not too long to lose focus, but detailed enough to feel rewarding. The instructions are clear and friendly, and as always, LEGO City sets have a charm that engages younger builders right from the first brick.
The set includes two main builds: a sturdy flatbed truck and a sleek rescue helicopter. Luke handled the truck with its simple but satisfying chassis construction, while Rose took charge of the helicopter, enjoying the rotor assembly and the transparent cockpit canopy.
Set Highlights
- Truck Build: The truck is quite large relative to the piece count. The flatbed design, complete with detachable ramp, allows the helicopter to be easily loaded and unloaded. The cabin has room for the driver minifigure and a bit of dashboard detailing.
- Helicopter Build: The helicopter features a bright red and yellow rescue livery, spinning rotors, and enough space to fit the pilot inside. The landing skids and tail stabiliser are simple but well-executed for the set’s scale.
- Minifigures: Both the pilot and the driver are great little additions with printed torsos that fit into any LEGO City scene perfectly.
- Playability: Once built, the set really shines for play. Luke and Rose were soon flying rescue missions across the kitchen table, driving the truck around to pick up stranded minifigures and transporting the helicopter back to base.
Fit for Redmond’s Forge LEGO Museum or LEGO City?
- LEGO City: Absolutely. This is a fantastic utility set that fits naturally into any cityscape, especially near an airport or emergency services area.
- Redmond’s Forge LEGO Museum: Less likely to be a museum centrepiece, but would work great as part of a ‘LEGO City Emergency Services’ display.
- Resale Value: As a modern LEGO City set, its value will hold well as part of a larger City collection, but it’s primarily a strong playset rather than a collectible investment.

Final Thoughts
LEGO 60343 Rescue Helicopter Transport is a great mid-size set that offers excellent play value, a satisfying build for young builders, and plenty of action-packed storytelling opportunities. Luke and Rose gave it two thumbs up, and as always, the kitchen table saw another successful mission completed.
